Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park offers a tranquil retreat to relax, enjoy a picnic, skip stones, and marvel at the sunset — despite the presence of two historic cannons often used for kid cannon-riding.

Pioneer Park is a storybook of Southampton's rich marine history situated near the Range Light at the mouth of the Saugeen River,

Visitors can find a memorial honoring lost sailors and replica storm signal baskets once used to alert passing ships of impending bad weather.

Since 1996, the flower beds, hedges and lawn have been lovingly tended by members of the Propeller Club – making this a magical palace for family photos and wedding groups among the gardens and shoreline. So, if you have a green thumb, we'd be delighted to have your helping hands.

The park is located along the Captain Spence Trail, providing a shoreline walk to and from the prominent flag at the foot of High Street. In the opposite direction, anglers can take advantage of the nearby docks for a chance to reel in salmon, pike, pickerel, perch, and trout.

Whether you want to enjoy a picnic, cast a line in the nearby harbour, or just admire the serenity, Pioneer Park is the natural spot!

Parking's a breeze by the docks, and there are restrooms for a quick break. Looking for the island trip? The tour base headquarters are just around the corner.

This natural gem has been tended by the Propeller Club since 1996. It is a labour of love making sure the lawns and flower beds are neat. If gardening or mowing grass sounds fun, we are always on the lookout to be joined by helpful hands.
