Jon Sterling

Jon Sterling sits on the bow of the Peerless. Note the small skiff that he is resting on that is lashed to the Peerless. We used this skiff extensively. The Stone Mason's would go into shore to start work. Mike Sterling would row the skff into shore and return with either the 12 footer with 6 HP engine or the Tillbury with 25 HP engine. Then we would begin the transport of the materials from the Peerless. The draft of the Peerless made it dangerous to go close to shore. We used a 1000 lbs wet anchor some 300 feet offshore to secure the Peerless.
The day pictured was a weekend in the fall as we leave the Southampton harbour. We have the 12 footer in tow. Jon was there to help us with some heavy lifting. You can tell by the shoulders that he is built for that type of thing.
