John Kleppert Lighthouse Keeper

John Klippert was Keeper from 1917 to 1937.

This is a typical picture of a Lighthouse Keeper on Chantry Island rowing to and from the shore to buy supplies.  Their duties required them to be on the Island at night and often during the day they could be seen coming and going from the Long Dock near Southampton.  From the picture it appears that Mr Kleppert did a good deal of work with those powerful hands.  See the charming recollections of a young girl, Chantry Island and John Klippert.
